Key tips for interviewing a domestic worker at home.

After passing our L’Atelier10 screening process, and knowing that we, as a domestic service agency in Madrid, always send you the best candidates for your home (Trust, References, and Experience, our selection criteria), the personal interview between the candidate and the employer is very important. Every family is different, even if they have similar needs, so the chemistry during the personal interview will play a significant role in the final decision.

1. It’s important to conduct the interview in the home where the domestic worker will be performing her duties. This way, she can get a sense of the place, and we can avoid surprises on her first day of work.

2. It is recommended that the first part of the interview be conducted alone with the candidate.

3. Questions to be asked

  • Why do you choose to work in a household rather than another type of job?
  • What do you like most about this job?
  • What type of families have you worked for before?
  • What was your role?
  • What were the ages of the children you have cared for?
  • You can cook?
  • You like it?
  • Which household tasks do you enjoy, and which ones do you like less?
  • Can you iron?
  • Are you organized and able to manage your routine?

4. Other topics to consider during the interview: Where do you currently live, and how would you get to our house? On your days off, do you prefer to stay at our house or do you have another place you like to go to? Habits: Do you have any other main activities, such as studying or another job, on your days off?

5. Make it very clear what your working conditions are regarding salary (the agency has already taken care of this, but it’s good to reiterate), vacations (as agreed upon by both parties), rest hours, special conditions, etc.
